Applicant Information

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Minnesota State Bar Foundation. On this website you will find a copy of our application and mission statement. Before you submit your application, please read the mission statement carefully to determine if your project falls within its purview.

The Foundation limits its grants to law-related projects as described in the mission statement. Many requests for funding are meritorious but involve programs that are primarily social-service related and are thus unlikely to be funded. Be sure to review our annual report to learn more. It may also help you to note that typical grant amounts range from $1,500 to $3,000, and that the number of requests we receive has been growing steadily.

Our board meets quarterly in mid-September, December, March, and June. Applications must be submitted on the required form (see below) to the address above and received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the first working day of the month in which a quarterly meeting is held. Decisions are based on our written application form; do not submit the Minnesota Common Grant form. The Foundation does not generally review attachments other than those listed at the end of the application form. Applications should be limited in length to the four-page form.

We appreciate your interest. If you do submit an application, we will notify you within approximately six weeks after the quarterly board meeting.

Very truly yours,

James Patrick Barone, President

MINNESOTA STATE BAR FOUNDATION

The grant application form is now available in three formats. You may save or print out the Microsoft Word or html formats to create your own form in conjunction with most word processors. Note, however, that your application may not be longer than four pages. If you prefer a pre-formatted version, select and print out the Adobe Acrobat (*.pdf) file.
