Real Property Certification Exam Facts

The exam is given in February of even-numbered years. The examination will be given at the MSBA offices in Minneapolis.  Other locations can be arranged if there is sufficient interest..

MCLE presents a Real Estate Review Course before each exam. The exam is designed to determine the depth and breadth of your real estate knowledge from your practical experience and the review course is not required. The course might be a helpful review of statutes and caselaw for exam takers, especially if there are real estate practice areas in which you do not regularly focus in your practice.

Exam Content:

The exam consists of multiple-choice questions and one essay question, covering the following areas:

1. Real Estate Purchases and Sales
2. Mortgages and Contracts for Deed
3. Landlord/Tenant
4. Title Examination
5. Land Use Regulation (Zoning and Subdivision)
6. Mechanics Liens
7. Eminent Domain
8. Torrens Proceedings
9. Condominiums/Townhouses
10. Ethics and the Rules of Professional Conduct (as they relate to real property law)

Applicants should be familiar with statutes and seminal case law in these areas.
