District bar associations form the basic units of organization within the MSBA. District bar associations elect the leadership of the MSBA, including the members of both the Assembly and the Council. Officers of the MSBA are nominated by the district bars for election by the Assembly.

Minnesota is divided into 21 district bar associations. With a few exceptions, district bar associations operate as separate entities with their own organizational structure, articles and bylaws. In 1987, the Minnesota State Bar Association's Bylaws were amended to allow the "inclusion" of district bars into the organization structure of the MSBA. As of 1994, five district bar associations have opted for inclusion.

To facilitate greater interaction between the MSBA and the district bar associations, the Bar's 21 districts are grouped within regions. Click on the map to view information on these six regions.
