• District bar associations form the basic units of organization within the MSBA. District bar associations elect the leadership of the MSBA, including the members of both the House of Delegates and the Board of Governors. Officers of the MSBA are nominated by the district bars for election by the Board of Governors
• Minnesota is currently divided into 21 district bar associations.
• The MSBA requires you to belong to one district (see map above), either where you live or work
• If you qualified for the Service Associate or Disabled Special Membership you are exempt from district dues.
• Retired members are exempt from district dues, except in HCBA, District 4.
• District 4 offer discounted rates for special membership categories.

The following table is the dues schedules for the district bars.

• Junior: 2nd or 3rd year since admitted to practice in any bar. Admitted 7/1/01-12/31/03.
• Intermediate: 4th or 5th year since admitted to practice in any bar. Admitted 7/1/99-6/30/01.
• Senior: 6th year or more since admitted to practice in any bar. Admitted before 6/30/99.

If you were admitted after 12/31/04 you can join two districts at no charge.
