Membership is open to attorneys admitted to practice and in good standing in Minnesota or other states. Law student, law management professionals, and paralegals may apply for associate membership. See "Applications" link above.

MSBA members can join any of our 32 sections (See "Sections" link above). Section membership is optional.

Special Membership Categories

Attorney Special Membership Categories: Attorneys may qualify for one of the special membership categories listed below. Reduced rates may apply to district dues. Click on the "Junior," "Intermediate," or "Senior" links in the Dues Schedule table above for rates.

Category	Description	Dues
Attorney Associate	A member not admitted to practice law in Minnesota, but in good standing in another state or the District of Columbia.	Pay full state and district dues
Disabled	A member who is totally disabled.	Exempt from state and district dues.
Emeritus	An attorney 70 years or older, no longer in full-time practice.	Pay 3/4 state dues and 3/4 HCBA dues, if applicable; full district dues for all other districts.
Legal Services Associate	A member employed exclusively by a legal service program representing low-income clients for no charge or a reduced fee.	Pay 1/2 state dues and 1/2 HCBA dues, if applicable; full district dues for all other districts.
Non-Resident Associate	A member admitted to the Minnesota bar who neither resides nor practices law in Minnesota. May choose any district.	May choose any district. Pay 1/2 state dues and 1/2 HCBA dues, if applicable; RCBA Dues: Sr. $90, Int. $70, Jr. $45, if applicable, full district dues for all other districts
Public Lawyer	A member employed exclusively by a government agency full time or part time.	Pay 3/4 state dues and 3/4 HCBA dues, if applicable; full district dues for all other districts.
Retired	A member who has been granted retired status on his or her license by the Supreme Court.	Pay 1/2 state dues and 1/2 HCBA dues, if applicable; exempt from all other district dues.
Service Associate	A member on active duty (other than for training) with the United States armed services, Peace Corps, or VISTA..	Exempt from state and district dues.
Under $25,000 Income	A member with adjusted gross income from all sources, (excluding the income of a spouse), for the past year less than $25,000.	Pay $42 state dues and $36 HCBA dues, if applicable; full district dues for all other districts
