Other Section Accomplishments
Funding the George Beck Volunteer Lawyers Network VISTA Attorney Position: The Administrative Law Section carried on its four-year tradition of financially supporting the Volunteer Lawyers Network, to assist them in providing legal services to low-income people through volunteer lawyers. In 2009, the Administrative Law Section raised funds as a scholarship for VLN to hire a law clerk to specifically assist VLN to serve the administrative law needs of those who cannot pay for legal services.
Our partnership with VLN has since evolved into supporting VLN’s hiring an attorney through Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA). This VISTA attorney creates and organizes resources for VLN’s clinics. She also has provided CLE and other training programs for VLN’s volunteer attorneys, who give referrals and volunteer for VLN’s new statewide Legal Service Line.
The Administrative Law Section dedicated this project to the honor of George Beck, Minnesota’s retired administrative law judge and esteemed scholar in administrative law. This year, the Public Law Section and Public Utilities Law Section again joined the Administrative Law Section in underwriting VLN’s VISTA attorney position.
