The purposes of the Animal Law Section are:
1. To provide a forum for discussion of legal issues pertaining to animals, including but not limited to issues in the following practice areas: Tort Law, Criminal Law, Contract Law, Wills and Estates, and Property Law, as well as the enforcement of federal laws;
2. To provide opportunities for legal education;
3. To improve the practice and elevate the ethical standards with regard to legal services pertaining to animals;
4. To draft amicus briefs in important cases pertaining to Animal Law;
5. To initiate legislative change, subject to the approval of the Board of Governors;
6. To foster and enhance the skills of animal lawyers; and
7. To serve as a liaison with other parts of the MSBA and the public on issues relating to animal law.
