The MSBA's Animal Law Section Presents
Damages for Death or Injury of an Animal
In recent years, there has been substantial debate regarding the appropriate measure of damages for causing injury to or death of an animal. Should the court award simply market value, or consider intrinsic value of a pet? Is it appropriate to award consequential damages when those far exceed market value? Should owners be compensated for
non-economic damages? This CLE will look at the alternatives and address the pros and cons of various approaches to valuation, with a special focus on the issue of veterinary malpractice.
