The MSBA's Computer & Technology Law Section and Communications Law Section Present:
"Hey, Somebody is Using My Trademark as a Twitter Handle!! -- Strategies and Tactics for Safeguarding Intellectual Property Across Social Media Networks"
Social media has connected us to each other and the world in ways and through means not even contemplated by prior generations. For all of the benefits that social media has brought to businesses and innovative people, social media has created new and difficult challenges and threats to the intellectual property of business owners and inventers. In this presentation, our speaker will discuss the state of the challenges and threats and provide practical advice on how to monitor and manage IP in this age of social media.
Patrick J. Gallagher is a partner in Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P.'s Intellectual Property & Technology Department. Patrick assists clients of all sizes and in a wide variety of industries register and protect intellectual property, with a particular concentration on trademarks and copyrights. He helps clients navigate IP protection across social media platforms and through more traditional venues and avenues (such as navigating the registration process before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and handling enforcement proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and in federal court). He also counsels clients concerning domestic and international trademark portfolio management. He has been an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law, teaching a trademark litigation course for several semesters. He was named a Rising Star by Minnesota Law & Politics, 2006-2009 and named to the list of “The International Who’s Who of Trademark Lawyers” in 2011 and 2012.
