The MSBA's Consumer Litigation & New Lawyers Sections Present

The ABCs of Federal Consumer Credit Protection

CCPA. TILA. FCRA. FACTA. FDCPA. Federal consumer-protection law is an alphabet soup of dozens of statutes that serve many different purposes, yet are codified together in a tightly interrelated statutory scheme that began with a single statute — the Consumer Credit Protection Act, enacted in 1968, which became the foundation upon which dozens of later statutes were built. This seminar will trace those statutes’ history, from the original Consumer Credit Protection Act as it was written 45 years ago to the modern statutory scheme. The seminar is geared toward beginners who are looking for a simple introduction to and overview of federal consumer-credit-protection law.

Lunch will be provided. Teleconferencing and webcasting is available.
