The MSBA's Criminal Law and Appellate Practice Sections along with William Mitchell College of Law Present:

"The 50th Anniversary of the Minnesota Criminal Code: Looking Back and Looking Forward "

Intoxication. Duress. Murder. Manslaughter. Robbery. Assault. Defense. Prosecution. Jail time and more.

Fifty years ago, the Minnesota legislature enacted the Minnesota Criminal Code. The 1963 Code was the culmination of a major legislative reform effort spearheaded by an appointed advisory committee of experts.

The committee, led by former William Mitchell Professor Maynard Pirsig, spent years looking at every aspect of the criminal law and making recommendations for changes, which were largely adopted by the legislature when it passed the Criminal Code.

This symposium will look back at what was accomplished 50 years ago and also look forward toward the next generation of reforms and new legislative initiatives in the criminal law.

Presenters will include:

Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Paul Anderson
Minnesota Commissioner of Corrections Thomas Roy
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman
Rice County Attorney Paul Beaumaster
Chair of the Minnesota Legislature House Public Safety Committee Debra Hilstrom ’10
Minnesota State Senator Julie Rosen
William Mitchell Professor Peter Knapp
