The increasing growth rate of this country’s elderly population causes attorneys to know many diverse areas of the law. Laws governing estates, wills, Medicare, Medicaid, health insurance, guardianships, etc., are proliferating and becoming more complex. A growing number of lawyers already practice elder law, but many more will be needed as the baby boomers get older and the “very old” age group mushrooms (the over-85 group is the fastest growing population segment).Elder law demands more than planning for death; it’s planning for living . . . for as long and with as much independence as possible. Our goal is to help Minnesota lawyers prepare to meet this need. The practice of elder law requires lawyers to move beyond conventional solutions to meet the current and ever changing needs of aging clients.
