The MSBA's Labor & Employment Section Presents
"NLRB Update: New Procedures in Representation Cases (and More)"
On December 21, 2011, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) announced that it had adopted a final rule, amending some of the Agency’s procedures in representation cases. Since that time, the General Counsel and the Regional offices have been making plans for the implementation of the new procedures, which take effect on April 30, 2012. In fact, the Agency is in the process of finalizing a memorandum devoted to the amendments and the new procedures, which is planned for release between now and April 30.
Please join us on May 1 for a discussion of the new rules, and how the NLRB intends to apply them. Marlin Osthus (the Regional Director for NLRB Region 18 in Minneapolis) will be present to describe the significant changes and answer questions. Practitioners with experience appearing before the Agency in pre-election and post-election hearings will offer their insights on the real impact of the changes for unions and management.
In 2011, the Board issued one particularly significant decision regarding appropriate bargaining units, and there will be a brief discussion of the most recent cases and developments stemming from that decision.
This will also be an opportunity for attendees to exchange ideas and ask questions regarding the Board’s new rule (also effective on April 30) requiring employers to post notices informing employees of their rights under the National Labor Relations Act.
