Mediations
I have mediated over 200 cases in the areas of Human Rights and Employment Discrimination claims, including gender, sexual harassment, age, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, reprisal and constructive termination. I have also mediated cases in the areas of Employment Contract, Defamation, Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, and Whistle Blower claims. I have also mediated attorney fees and costs disputes. I mediate cases through the Office of Administrative Hearings when a party is a government entity. When no party is a government entity, I accept cases as a freelance, independent contractor on leave from the Office of Administrative Hearings.

Familiarity and Experience with State and Federal Labor and Employment Laws
As an Administrative Law Judge for nearly 20 years, I have heard and decided contested human rights cases under Minn. Stat. Chapter 363. In that capacity I have had to familiarize myself with state and federal statutes and rules, and have had to apply state and federal case law. I am very familiar with and keep myself current with important federal cases (especially Eighth Circuit), and state cases that address procedural and substantive discrimination issues. I have also heard and decided Employee Discharge cases for cities, counties, school districts and state agencies. I have also been an Unemployment Compensation Judge with the Department of Economic Security where I heard and decided unemployment claims.

Factors Relevant to Ability to Mediate Employment Disputes
I try to attend the Employment Law Institute each year and have attended Employment Law Section CLEs. I am a Qualified Mediator and Arbitrator under Minnesota Court Rule 114 and several district court judges have referred cases to me pursuant to Rule 114. I am an Employment Dispute Panelists for the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution; President of the Minnesota Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution; and an active member of the Minnesota State Bar Association. I am a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs in the areas of Mediation and Administrative Law. I am on the faculty for an annual training program in mediation for ALJs sponsored by the National Association of Administrative Law Judges and the National Conference of ALJs, Section of Dispute Resolution, American Bar Association. I also teach Administrative Law & Process, and Arbitration and Adjudication in the Graduate School of Public Administration & Management at Hamline University where I have been an Assistant Professor for 10 years.
