"Lawyer Trust Accounts and Real Life Discipline"

The mishandling of money and mismanagement of client trust accounts continue to get lawyers into trouble with the Board of Professional Responsibility. Eric Cooperstein will speak about how the Board's discipline system operates and the type of trust account errors that tend to get lawyers into trouble the most. Calandra Harris will share her personal experiences of discipline with the Board after she was suspended in 2009 for client trust account mismanagement.

Speakers:

Calandra Harris, Volunteers of America of Minnesota
Calandra Harris is a 2001 William Mitchell graduate who was practicing private criminal defense when an ethics complaint was filed against her in September 2008. She was suspended from the practice of law in May 2009 and has recently been reinstated. She is currently working at the Volunteers of America of Minnesota as the Senior Manager of Contract Compliance.

Eric Cooperstein , The Law Office of Eric T. Cooperstein
Eric Cooperstein started his private practice, The Law Office of Eric T. Cooperstein, in the fall of 2006. He is the former Senior Assistant Director of the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility, where he worked from 1995 to 2001, and a former member of the 4th District Ethics Committee, on which he served from 2003 through April 2007. He is a frequent lecturer and speaker on topics of legal ethics.
