The MSBA's Practice Management & Marketing Section Presents

"Connecting Cultures: Best Practices with Interpreters and your Client"

When individuals come from different cultures, languages differ, and so do cultural norms that affect communication and understanding. This hour long CLE, taught by an experienced judicial interpreter, will teach you what you need to know to skillfully interact with your limited English proficient clients. We will first discuss cultural differences that can lead to misunderstandings. Then we will discuss specifics related to interpretation and strategies for most effectively using your interpreter.

April Cedillo, Founder of Link Interpret

April Cedillo is the founder of Link Interpret, an interpreting agency specializing in providing certified legal interpreters in all languages to law firms for depositions and arbitrations. She is a state certified Spanish interpreter with ten years of experience in the legal field. April has degrees in Spanish and Latin American studies from the University of Minnesota and a two year academic certificate in Legal Interpretation and Translation from Florida International University. April interprets in civil, criminal, and immigration courts, private depositions and arbitrations, and is a frequent presenter on the topic of working with interpreters and cross cultural communication. One of April's most enjoyable assignments is interpreting for Latina contestants at the Miss Universe pageant, held in a different country yearly
