The MSBA's Solo and Small Firm Section Presents

"REVENUE: Make It, Book It, Bill It, Collect It"

Revenue...all lawyers need to make it, book it, bill it and collect it. Walk away from this seminar with information about how to increase your revenue, keep accurate records, effectively bill clients and secure punctual payments. Special attention will be paid to the ethical implications of flat fee payments.

*ETHICS CREDITS APPROVED * (9:00 - 9:30 a.m.)

MAKE IT | You must make a profit to survive in the business of practicing law. During this half hour, Mr. Snyder and Mr. Scott will discuss sources of revenue and payment structures, paying special attention to the ethical implications of the new flat service fee ethics rule. Presented by: Chad A. Snyder, Esq., Snyder Gislason Frasier, LLC and Todd Scott, Minnesota Lawyers Mutual

*STANDARD CREDITS APPROVED* (9:30 - 10:30 a.m.)

BOOK IT | Good management of your firm will result in quality service and satisfied clients who will value your effort and be willing to pay you for it. Mr. Gislason will share easy and successful ways to keep records to help make billing clients a breeze. Participants will also walk away with strategies for analyzing these records to produce future profits. Presented by: Adam P. Gislason, Esq., Snyder Gislason Frasier, LLC

BILL IT | If you are providing quality legal services and are charging a fair and reasonable fee, you should be paid for those services. If you choose for whatever reason, to do the work pro bono, then the decision should be yours and not the client's. Ms. McLain will share processes for billing clients in a manner that produces timely payments. Participants will receive three sample invoices from lawyers who routinely successfully secure timely payments from clients. Presented by: Debra M. McLain, Esq., McLain Law Firm, LLC

COLLECT IT | Collection problems do not exist in vacuum. You do not have a good client one day and then suddenly "poof" he/she turns into a deadbeat. Clients who pay regularly start when you make a decision about what clients to take, your fee agreement, your communication with the client and your billing process. Mr. Scott will highlight the importance of retainers and fee agreements and share advice for creating a collections process. Presented by: Todd Scott, Minnesota Lawyers Mutual
