Seth Heald, the newly-appointed head of the DOJ Tax Division, will discuss enforcement initiatives and related issues. Commissioner Einess will discuss 2008 tax legislation and provide an update on Department of Revenue activities, audits, enforcement actions, initiatives, personnel changes, and other items of "Hot News" and interest to the tax community. Faris Fink will talk about issues affecting individual and small business taxpayers, including IRS responses to abusive tax schemes and collection issues. Tamar Gronvall will discuss recent Minnesota tax litigation. David Zoss and Reid Huey will discuss IRS counsel issues, including changes in the U.S. Tax Court rules. Judge Ramstad will discuss current issues and developments in the Minnesota Tax Court.
The seminar is from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a question and answer session, and concludes with a one-hour cocktail party (cash bar and complimentary hors d'oeuvres).
Notice of Annual Meeting: The Tax Law Section will also hold its Annual Meeting at 2:00 p.m. to elect officers and council members for 2008-2009, and to conduct other business as may come before the meeting. The Annual meeting will be in the Penthouse, which is located on the fourteenth floor of the University Club.
