The MSBA's Tax Section Presents


"Recent Corporate Tax Developments: A View from Treasury"

This is an opportunity to hear about recent regulatory developments in the area of corporate taxation, from a government official with responsibility for their development. This presentation will be made by Donald W. Bakke, an attorney-advisor with the U.S. Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C. Mr. Bakke's presentation will include an overview of (i) temporary and proposed regulations under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) section 108(i), dealing with the deferral of cancellation of indebtedness income and events that accelerate deferral; (ii) temporary and proposed regulations for consolidated-return files that implements IRC section 172(b)(1)(H), a special extended loss carryback provision; and (iii) final regulations addressing the contours of IRC section 368(a)(1)(D), under which certain corporate acquisitive transactions may qualify for nonrecognition despite the absence of stock being issued as consideration.
